The Roman Catholic Church was founded upon a pyramid of lies in the early centuries after the apostles, and those lies have only grown in number through the centuries. What is the Roman Catholic Church? It is lies and heresies and apostasies and blasphemies hidden beneath a veneer of Bible terminology and an external form of godliness. This was evident in November 24 when Pope Benedict XVI created six new “cardinals.” His speech for the occasion was filled with words about Jesus and the Holy Spirit and the kingdom of God and communion with God and “Christ’s saving mission,” and “the light of the Gospel” (“Pope Creates Six New Cardinals,” Vatican Radio, Nov. 24, 2012). But there is no truth in the papacy and when the pope uses biblical terms he interprets them by a heretical dictionary.
Consider just a handful of the lies that proceed from the Vatican: the pope sits in Peter’s chair and is the head and father of all churches; people baptized by Rome, including infants, are born again; the mass is a re-sacrifice of Christ and the consecrated bread becomes the actual body and blood of Christ, to be worshiped in a “tabernacle” in Rome’s churches; there is a place called purgatory; Mary is the Queen of Heaven; Catholic priests minister in the room of Melchisadec and have authority to administer salvation through the sacraments and to pronounce forgiveness in Christ’s name; salvation is not by God’s grace alone and those who claim that it is are under God’s curse (according to the Council of Trent, the pronouncements of which have never been rescinded and which were confirmed repeatedly by the Second Vatican Council).
Lies, lies, lies! And every “evangelical” preacher and every “Baptist” preacher and every “fundamentalist” preacher should be exposing these lies regularly and loudly, and the fact that there is so much silence on this awesomely important subject is evidence of the vast compromise and cowardice that exists among those who profess to believe the Bible. When have you heard Chuck Swindoll or Chuck Colson or Luis Palau or his son or Franklin Graham or Bill Hybels or Greg Laurie or Warren Wiersbe or Bill Hybels or Max Lucado or John Maxwell or other popular “evangelicals” expose Rome’s lies in plain Bible language? They don’t, and when some lone voice like Dave Hunt’s is lifted against Rome’s blasphemies and wicked history, as he did in A Woman Rides the Beast, he is treated as a fool and his book banned from evangelical bookstores.
There is no clearer evidence to the fact that we are witnessing the formation of the one-world church affiliated with the woman “arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication” (Revelation 17:4). And many independent Baptists are building bridges to this apostasy by “adapting” the one-world church’s contemporary music, by questionable Sunday School materials, by messing around with deeply compromised evangelicalism, by carelessness in what they sell in their bookstores, and in other ways.
