“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
We are specifically instructed to pray for the authorities that are over us that we may live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty and that we may proclaim the gospel so that souls can come to Christ. Why would the Lord instruct us to pray in such a manner if He were not ready to answer? This is one of the few things we are specifically instructed to pray for and it should be obvious from the events that we are witnessing that we need to redouble this type of prayer, yet I wonder how many churches are doing this? Our church in South Asia has a special prayer like this each week led by one of our young men, as do many churches in this land, and I am convinced that this is the very reason why we have enjoyed liberty to preach even though we live under a Maoist/Hindu government and by “natural rights” we should have been under the heel of persecution long ago. God answers prayer!
