Pat Robertson, head of The 700 Club, told a viewer on November 27 that the earth is older than 6,000 years and that dinosaurs predate biblical history (“Pat Robertson Says Dinosaurs Prove Young Earth Creationists Are Wrong,” Christian Post, Nov. 28, 2012). Robertson was replying to a Christian mother who is concerned that her sons and husband are abandoning the biblical faith for the lies of science, and she got a horribly-wrong answer from Robertson. Sadly, it is obvious that he is ignorant of this important issue, erring in thinking that evolutionary science is established upon real facts. Evolutionary science is not real science. It is a reinterpretation of the facts of science through the eyes of willful skepticism.
All real science supports the Bible, and this has been documented by many highly qualified scientists, such as the Ph.D’s that we list in “Testimonies of Scientists Who Believe the Bible,” available as a free eBook from www.wayoflife.org. It is essential to understand that evolution does not rate as a theory or even as a hypothesis. As David Stone, Ph.D. physics, says, “Scientific theories involve quantitative modeling, experimental data, and repeated validation by prediction and observation. In any aspect of the philosophy / fantasy of evolution, there is no ‘theory.’ There is no theory for formation of the first protein, first DNA, first cellular sub-structures, first cell, multi-celled creatures, transitions between kinds, etc. Just stories! There are no genetic data, not a single observed case of mutations and natural selection producing new, complex tissues, organs, or creatures. Evolution is also not a hypothesis, which is a reasonable explanation of observed facts, consistent with known physical laws, employing experimental data and analysis. It has been tested at least to some degree to see whether it holds up under certain conditions. A theory arises when a hypothesis has stood up to repeated tests under a wide variety of conditions and cannot be broken. Evolution warrants neither term. Evolution qualifies merely as a philosophical, even a religious idea, void of scientific support, and intended to replace biblical truth with stories” (Dr. Stone, e-mail to David Cloud, August 21, 2011). Pat Robertson mentioned “carbon dating” as supposed evidence for an ancient earth, but carbon dating actually points to a young earth. When it comes to the Bible, its account of creation is clear.
There is nothing “poetic” about the account in Genesis 1-2. “An evening and a morning” does not add up to millions of years. Way back in 1922, William Jennings Bryan wisely said, “It is no light matter to impeach the veracity of the Scriptures in order to accept, not a truth--not even a theory--but a mere hypothesis” (In His Image, 1922, p. 94). Bryan was correct in this statement, but he too erred by foolishly giving credence to a “long day” view of Genesis 1, thus undermining the biblical account. This is exactly what men such as Pat Robertson are doing in our day, and it is shameful and destructive to the cause of Christ.
