The Vatican is trying to reign in a large group of U.S. nuns who “are operating outside of the Roman Catholic Church’s doctrines.” With the completion of a year-long investigation into the Leadership Conference of Women Religions (LCWR), the Vatican announced that it found “serious doctrinal problems” and “radical feminism” and is initiating major reforms (“Vatican blasts American nuns,” CNN Belief Blog, April 19, 2012). The LCWR represents 80% of the nuns in the U.S., so this is a major issue. In particular, the Vatican found that the nuns are not supporting its position against birth control and abortion and marriage being limited to one man and one woman. I, for one, doubt that the “reforms” will prove to be effective. Feminist nuns aren’t going to give up their views because of pressure from men! Simone Campbell, head of the Network, a Catholic social justice lobby, said, “I don’t think the bishops have any idea of what they’re in for” (“Leader of ‘radical” US nuns reject Vatican criticism,” BBC News, April 21, 2012). Not even the Vatican can control things “from top down” today, because we are living in a “me first, people’s power” age. (Not that we have any sympathy whatsoever with the Vatican, whose heresies and wretched history has brought great reproach to the name of Christ and whose hands drip with the blood of the saints.) The one-world church that is taking shape before our eyes is egalitarian and anti-authoritative. It’s all about “me”--my taste, my opinions, my music, my dress, my theology, my feelings--and it was described perfectly in Bible prophecy. “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves ... after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears” (2 Timothy 3:1-2; 4:3-4). “People’s power” is forming the one-world church to the soundtrack of contemporary worship music, but the people’s power principle will come to a screeching halt when the Antichrist takes the throne and exercises the power of the devil over all nations as described in Revelation 13. He will yoke with the harlot church to gain power, but he will turn on her when it suits his fancy.
