In another example of how the U.S. federal government is becoming totalitarian toward religious liberty and is blatantly ignoring its citizen’s constitutional liberties, a food pantry in Indiana is being forced to give up praying with recipients or give up food provided through the federal Emergency Food Assistance Program (“Food Pantry’s Prayers,” USA Today, March 27, 2012). The volunteers at the food pantry simply ask recipients if there is anything they would like them to pray about, yet that was deemed a violation of federal law, which says no religious activity or teaching can be required for providing services. Forget the fact that the food bank does not require any such thing; it merely offers to pray for people! America is gradually becoming a dangerous place to practice any part of the New Testament Christian faith that is not politically correct, but most other places in this sin-cursed world aren’t any better. It’s not time to run off to a remote mountain retreat or merely sit around bemoaning the evils of the times. It’s time to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission while we have the opportunity. The reason Christ is “tarrying” is that He is “longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Though apostasy is spreading like the plague, souls are coming to the Lord in many parts of the world and sound New Testament churches can still be established.
