Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, says he has no doubt that militant Islam will be defeated by the end of the century. Spelling out his “vision for the future” last week at the President’s Conference, Netanyahu said that militant Islam will be defeated because “we’re in a knowledge century” and Israel is “number one in the world per capita in producing more conceptual products, products of the mind” (“Defeating Islamism Will Take Decades,” Artuz Sheva, June 21, 2012). I have a high respect for Benjamin Netanyahu and his brothers, all of whom are brave warriors and nation builders, and there is no doubt that the Jews, being God’s chosen people, are very clever; but this vision reminds us that though Israel is back in the land, she is spiritually dead, dwelling in unbelief, unable to understand her own Scriptures. This is in fulfillment of the amazing prophecy of the Valley of Dry Bones in Ezekiel 37, which describes Israel’s restoration in two stages: first in spiritual death, then in resurrection life. Israel is back in the land and her presence there has been a continual miracle, but she won’t live spiritually until she repents during the Tribulation and receives her rejected Messiah and the Spirit of God breathes on her in regenerating power. “And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: BUT THERE WAS NO BREATH IN THEM. Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army” (Ezek. 37:8-10).
